San Soo Gab San

One of the amazing things about real estate is you're able to meet so many different people from all over the world. Each brings their own stories of coming to Chicago and their own perspective on life, and in my opinion, any time spent with someone even mildly different from you is a time well spent.

I had never tried Korean BBQ before but had only heard great things. When Donald Kiolbassa, a South Korean born real estate attorney, asked me to join him at San Soo Gab San, I obviously couldn't say no.

Don has been going to this place for years. To him its not just a place of nostalgia for authentic food, but also the place where he's shared meals and stories with many friends and colleagues--the place where he's been bringing his now wife since their days of dating.

He orders the Kabli (Korean beef short ribs) and bowls come out in droves. Almost in an overwhelming fashion, there's now eggs, kimchi, all sorts of vegetables & dishes I couldn't even tell you what they were spread across the table. The idea is that every bite and every experience is customizable to each diner. An experience that can bring anyone together.

The other beautiful thing about Korean BBQ is you can grill your own meat, which thankfully Don knows how to do exceptionally well. Between our chopstick filled bites of some of the best food I've had in Chicago, we share stories of our past and how we got to where we are today. I find out that not only has Don lived and worked in China, but he's also an author, a gold medalist & yes, even Scorpion in Mortal Kombat.

Whether you're looking for authentic Korean BBQ or a new experience, San Soo Gab Son has been killing the game for over 25 years and is definitely worth checking out.
