Mallorca: Saltwater, Stone, and a Wedding
field notes: thoughts from the road & a few places we’d send a friend
Where summer starts in soft focus
We landed with no expectations and found ourselves arriving early to summer. Mallorca in late May was sun-faded, unhurried, and (surprisingly) lush. The kind of place where the breeze smells like citrus & sea, and plans feel more like suggestions.
We traveled for a wedding and stayed long enough to lose track of the days. Somewhere between the sea and the stone villas, we remembered how good it feels to pause. To truly unplug & just let the time pass.
Where the Time Went
– Daily espressos — some local, some from Berlin’s own: The Barn
– A detour near Sóller: ended up barefoot on a quieter shore, pss-pss’ing at street cats
– Golden hour drives through the Serra de Tramuntana — windows down
– A botanical garden wedding with lemon trees, a dreamy tablescape, and a playlist that didn’t stop
– Shared plates & bottles, serenaded at tiny bistro tables on crowded patios
– Saltwater swims, shaded cabanas, and nowhere to be
– Wandering Palma’s Old Town: a sun-warmed maze of shutters & sandstone
– Bought a book in Spanish (thankfully with pictures)
– Got our steps in at “La Seu,” the Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca
Port de Sóller
For Next Time
– The beach clubs — tempting, just not this time
– A taxi on speed dial > Uber
– The hike we meant to do (but didn’t)
– Es Baluard, Palma’s contemporary art museum
– A proper shopping day in El Casco Antiguo (Old Town)
– El Olivo — apparently a view & a reservation worth fighting for
– A spa day (we got a late-night tattoo instead)
Mallorca: Berlin’s unofficial 17th district for a reason.
We didn’t do much. We didn’t need to.
Not a full guide — just the notes I’d send a friend.
