Haus Guest | Lucy’s Uptown Apartment

Before Lucy left her first Chicago apartment, we photographed the space she had made there: a small, sunlit walk-up filled with color, pattern, houseplants, collected art, and furniture she had refurbished herself.

Lucy moved from Kansas City for an upholstery job that disappeared before it ever began. The year that followed did not look like the life she had packed for, but another one was already taking shape, even if it looked different from what she had imagined.

Explore the photo journal, then read our full conversation about the dream job, the furniture she kept making, the people she found, and the life that grew in a different direction.
