I've never been able to put my finger on it, but Unit 9E at 33 West Delaware has always held a special place in my heart. Maybe it's the fact that I've been in love with Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood since I was a child. Maybe it's because it's the condo I wish I could have enjoyed when I was living on my own. Either way, I'm genuinely sad I may not have another opportunity to help another resident find home in this adorable studio.
Obviously, I'm not the only person that has feels for this condo though. Loving the vibrancy & proximity of Gold Coast, the condo's current owner, Chad, knew that this was the place he wanted to make his first home. Plus how could you pass up waking up every single morning to south facing views of the city or being able to relax on the private balcony after a long day?! When not cozying up at home, Chad would walk down the street to one of Near North's Side's many renowned eateries or quickly hop on the L to explore another neighborhood with friends (and I'm guessing to go see his now wife, Michelle, up in Buena Park).
Enjoying the condo for 7 years, Chad was small living long before it was a trend. He took his outdated pad and turned it into an updated luxury studio with a kitchen featuring quartz counter tops, stainless steel appliances & cherry cabinets. He also redid the flooring & upgraded the bathroom. Chad was finally able to make his home his own perfect oasis within one of Chicago's most active neighborhoods.
When Chad and his lovely wife Michelle eventually had a little one on the way, they knew it was time to move their growing family into a home of their own and began renting out their separate spaces. As a landlord, Chad's made sure to have tenants who would treat his unit as their own, and they showed their love of the unit by staying for years at a time. When a new resident was in place, he would even personally make sure the unit was in tip top shape. "I have the pride of it having been my home," Chad once told me...a quality & mentality not many landlords possess these days.
